ULTIMA DEFENDER is a physical NFC-chipped card that stores part of a private key. It is used to confirm transactions in SMART Wallet, such as transferring tokens, requesting splitting rewards, and so on. To confirm a transaction, simply hold the ULTIMA DEFENDER cold wallet against the smartphone that has SMART Wallet installed.

ULTIMA Defender provides physical protection of your wallet, excluding the possibility of software hacking. It stores the encrypted part of the private key, which is generated as a mnemonic phrase. The key is split randomly, and no one knows which part of it is written on the Defender, making data theft impossible.

The key advantage of Defender is its ease of use. Unlike most cold wallets, it does not require installation of additional software. It is easy to set up and connect to an existing wallet, which is especially convenient for experienced users.

In these guide, we will go through the ULTIMA Defender connection process in detail.

Step 1: Installing SMART Wallet

Download the Smart Wallet app from the App Store if your smartphone runs on iOS, or Google Play if you use Android.

Once you launch the wallet, you will be prompted to select the language of the application. Choose the language you feel most comfortable using Smart Wallet in. Please note that it may take some time for the network to load the preferred language. In case the language you need is not loaded immediately, please wait a little longer.

Step 2: Setting Up a Wallet

Click on the “Create Wallet” button. In the window that opens, select the type of protection and the option “Use ULTIMA Defender” when creating a wallet.

If you select Basic Security, the wallet will only generate a mnemonic passphrase, and if you select Passphrase Security, you will need to set a passphrase.

A passphrase is the thirteenth additional word to the mnemonic phrase that the user specifies when creating a wallet. Your passphrase is not stored in SMART Wallet, and the only person who knows it is the user. It is what will protect your wallet if for some reason you lose access to the 12-word mnemonic phrase. Please note that if you lose or forget your passphrase, it will be impossible to recover it and you will permanently lose access to your wallet. Therefore, we recommend using a passphrase only for experienced cryptocurrency users.

Next, a screen will open where you will see 12 words. To read them, press and hold the button “Press and hold to see the phrase” below the text phrases:

Please be particularly careful at this stage — this phrase is the key to the security of your funds. We recommend writing it down on a piece of paper. Do not store the mnemonic phrase on electronic devices or share it with others!

To continue using the app, you need to confirm your mnemonic phrase by entering the words in the correct order.

If you have done everything correctly, a congratulatory message will appear. After setting up your wallet, you will be requested to hold the ULTIMA Defender to the reader. Press the card on the camera side: that's where the chip is located in smartphones. Holding the card for 1–2 seconds will be enough. If you remove the card too quickly, it may not be read in time.

Please note that in some cases, you may need to enable NFC in your device's settings.

Once the setup is complete, you will receive a notification about it:

Done! You have connected ULTIMA DEFENDER! Now only you can access any cryptocurrency transactions in your SMART Wallet. And even if you lose your smartphone, your crypto funds will remain completely safe.

If you lose your ULTIMA Defender, you can always order a new card and connect it to your existing wallet, provided you remember your mnemonic phrase. This is why we once again stress the importance of storing your mnemonic phrase securely.
