SMART DEFENDER is a physical card with an NFC chip that stores a part of the private key. It is used to confirm transactions in SMART Wallet—transferring tokens, requesting rewards for splitting, and so forth. To confirm a transaction, simply tap the SMART DEFENDER cold wallet against the smartphone on which SMART Wallet is installed. In this guide, we will show you how to set up SMART DEFENDER for your wallet. We will demonstrate three configuration options for SMART DEFENDER:

If you already have Smart Wallet installed, use the information below.

Setting up SMART DEFENDER for an imported wallet

You can add SMART DEFENDER to an existing wallet during the import process. To do this, go to Settings. Select My Wallets.


Click the "+ ADD WALLET" button:

Select the "Restore Wallet" option.

In the window that opens, enter your Recovery Phrase:

And select the "Use Hard Wallet" option at the bottom:

After that, part of your mnemonic phrase will be recorded on the SMART DEFENDER.

Setting up SMART DEFENDER for an existing wallet

Go to Settings. Select My Wallets.

Select the wallet from the list to which you want to connect the SMART DEFENDER, and click the arrow on the right to go to the wallet settings:

On the screen that opens, select Make a Hard Wallet:

Next, you will need to confirm that you remember your mnemonic phrase

To do this, enter your mnemonic phrase and then click Restore Wallet:

On the next screen, you will be prompted to place your SMART DEFENDER next to your smartphone. Position the card by the camera side, as that is typically where the chip is located in smartphones. Just hold the card there for 1–2 seconds. If you remove the card too quickly, it may not be read properly.

Note that in some cases, you may need to enable NFC in your device settings.

Once the setup is complete, you will see a notification confirming this:

If you don't have a Smart Wallet yet, download the Smart Wallet app from the App Store if your smartphone runs on iOS, or from Google Play if you use Android.

Press the "Create Wallet" button. In the window that opens, select the "Use Hard Wallet" option. Then follow the instructions you see on the screen.

If you already have a wallet in Smart Wallet, open the app and go to Settings. Select My Wallets.


Press the "+ ADD WALLET" button:

Choose Create New Wallet.


In the window that opens, turn on the Use Hard Wallet option:

Then follow the further instructions. When the setup is complete, you will see a notification about it.

Done! You have connected SMART DEFENDER! Now, access to performing any transactions with cryptocurrencies in your SMART Wallet will be solely in your hands. Even if you lose your smartphone, your cryptocurrencies will remain completely safe.
